Innovation Showcase

You’re invited to join us at our 2nd Annual CUSD Innovation Showcase, Wednesday, January 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Capistrano Valley High School’s “Cougar Mall” in Mission Viejo.

Come and learn about CUSD’s extraordinary educational programs, pathways, and choices for CUSD families. All families are welcome. Please spread the word to families with children ages one and up!

The event will include breakout sessions, school and program highlights.

Cardiac Screening Available

On Fri, Feb 8, we’ll be hosting a Cardiac Screening for Oso Grizzlies & their families in the MPR from 3:00-7:00pm.  In connection with Heartfelt Cardiac Projects, we’ll be offering cardiac screenings for a donation of $85 per person, ages 5 and up.  The echocardiogram (ECHO) and electrocardiogram (EKG) are the best tools for detection of the risks of sudden cardiac death.  These tests typically cost $1,500 and are not covered by insurance.

GRIZZLY FUN RUN – Oct 12th

FUN RUN DAY is FRIDAY OCTOBER 12th!

The Grizzly Fun Run is our school’s largest and most important fundraiser of the year! For the 3rd year in a row we will have Boosterthon on board to partner with the PTA to deliver a fantastic program to the Oso Grande community. This year’s theme is Mind Spark Mystery Lab!

The Boosterthon staff will be onsite throughout the week prior to the Fun Run delivering important character lessons focused on community service, kindness, and being healthy! Students will have opportunities throughout the week to win daily prizes with pledge donations through their own individual webpage. Our Fun Run will kick off on Wednesday October 3rd, 2018 with our school wide Pep Rally!

Entry Form

 

PTA representatives will be available to accept the entries and answer any questions you may have.

 

Please follow the submission guidelines for each category, as listed below.  

 

Visual Arts

Works of both fine and design arts are accepted, including but not limited to: architectural drawing and models, ceramics, collage, computer generated images and graphics, crafts, drawing, fashion clothes and jewelry, fiber work, mixed media, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Use of copyrighted material is prohibited. 2D artworks must be mounted on sturdy material and no larger than 24×30 inches with matting. Framed entries are not accepted. Include one digital image of artwork with your submission. 3D artwork submissions must contain 3 digital images of artwork at different angles. Image(s) are used for artwork identification, judging and exhibition purposes.

 

Submission Details:

Artwork needs to have student entry form in a sheet protector attached to the back. Dimensions must not exceed 24×30 inches, including matting. Paper entries must be mounted on sturdy material.

3D artwork-3 photos of the entry (a combination of angles) for judging. These can be put on card stock or a small poster board.

 

Dance Choreography

Solo and ensemble works of all dance styles are accepted. Entrant must be the choreographer and may also be the performer, or one of the performers. If background music is used, cite it on the entry form. Video file must not exceed 5 min. and 1 GB in size. Accepted formats: AVI, FLV, WMV, MOV, MP4.

 

Submission Details:

Please place student work in a 9”X12” manila envelope with 2 copies of the entry. The student entry form should be attached in a sheet protector to the front of the envelope. It is acceptable if you have 2 different types of storage, i.e. CD and thumb drive.

 

Film Production

Accepted short film styles include: Animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or media presentation. Use of PowerPoint is prohibited. Entrant must be the screenwriter, cinematographer, editor and producer. If background music is used, cite it on the entry form. Video file must not exceed 5 min. and 1 GB in size. Accepted formats: AVI, FLV, WMV, MOV, MP4.

 

Submission Details:

Please place student work in a 9”X12” manila envelope with 2 copies of the entry. The student entry form should be attached in a sheet protector to the front of the envelope. It is acceptable if you have 2 different types of storage, i.e. CD and thumb drive.   

 

Literature

Accepted forms of fiction and nonfiction include: Prose, poetry, reflective essay, screenplay and play script, narrative and short story. Entrants may write in their primary language as long as an interpretive English translation is also attached. Use of copyrighted material is prohibited. Writing must not exceed 2,000 words and may be handwritten or typed. Accepted formats: Single-sided print on 8 ½x11” paper, PDF file.

 

Submission Details:

Please place student work in a 9”X12” manila envelope with 2 copies of the entry. The student entry form should be attached in a sheet protector to the front of the envelope.

 

Music Composition

All music styles and combinations of instrumentation are accepted. Entrant must be the composer and may also be the performer, or one of the performers. Use of copyrighted material is prohibited. Audio file must not exceed 5 min. and 1 GB in size. Accepted formats: MP3, WMA, WAV, ACC, FLAC. Notation (score/tablature) in PDF format is only required for middle and high school divisions.

 

Submission Details:

Please place student work in a 9”X12” manila envelope with 2 copies of the entry. The student entry form should be attached in a sheet protector to the front of the envelope. It is acceptable if you have 2 different types of storage for music, i.e. CD and thumb drive.   

 

Photography

Photo must be a single print/digital image. Collages and collections of photos are not accepted. Entrant must be the photographer and may use a variety of digital editing techniques including but not limited to, multiple exposure, negative sandwich and photogram. Use of copyrighted material is prohibited. Print image dimensions must be no smaller than 3×5 inches and no larger than 8×10 inches. Accepted print formats: Mounted on mat or poster board no larger than 11×14 inches. Framed prints are not accepted. Digital image dimensions must be at least 640×960 (pixels) and 300 dpi (resolution). Accepted file formats: JPEG, JPG, GIF, PNG.

 

Submission Details:

Artwork needs to have student entry form in a sheet protector attached to the back.

Framed photos are not accepted. Matting is accepted.

Print Photo: Must not exceed 11×14 inches, including matting. Mount on sturdy material such as cardboard or poster board.
